Our political life was languishing miserably in questions of personalities. But there was no nice impersonal trigger to which to consecrate ourselves, no lofty objective to which our wills may cling. We therefore followed, kind of distractedly, the petty incidents of day by day politics without experiencing the necessity to intervene. But as quickly as a grave question of precept was raised, the scholars have been seen to leave their laboratories, the discovered to leave their libraries to attract nearer the masses, to contain themselves in life; and the expertise has proved that they know the way to make themselves heard.
